Non-Discriminatory Statement for Students

The Lincoln School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship, and athletic and other school-administered programs. Lincoln School seeks to accommodate a variety of abilities and interests, but students applying must demonstrate average to above average grades for admission. However, because of our small size Lincoln School has limited Special Services and therefore we can consider students with mild learning disabilities or students in need of English as a Second Language. All admissions applications are reviewed by the Counselor and Administration before confirming admissions.

Admissions Overview

Lincoln School seeks to accommodate a variety of abilities and interests, but students applying must demonstrate average to above average grades for admission. However, because of our small size Lincoln School has limited Special Services and therefore we can consider students with mild learning disabilities or students in need of English as a Second Language. All admissions applications are reviewed by the Counselor and Administration before confirming admissions.

Two to three years of past school records need to be submitted with the application for admission. Students and parents need to meet with school officials by appointment only for an initial interview and orientation. Students applying for grades 3 through 12 will be screened in the areas of math, reading and writing. English as a Secondary Language screening may also apply. All school record information and screening results are considered as a whole for admissions.

Academic records are mandatory in the application process. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the application, but the official transcripts from the previous school must be submitted. If records are in a language other than English, please have them translated into English and include the certified translation with the original school records.

Please provide complete information about your child’s previous educational experience. Reports indicating any special needs are very important to us. All records will help us to determine admission and proper placement in classes as well as grade level.

If you are applying for pre-school or pre-kindergarten, your child must be of age 3 on or before September 1st. Also, your child must be completely toilet trained.

Placement Policies

Lincoln School reserves the right to determine the proper placement for a new student. Through the evaluation of the student’s past school records along with age, academic screening, emotional maturity, and other factors, a determination will be made regarding the proper grade placement. The parent and student will have an opportunity for input on this matter during the admission process.

Students are placed in the grade that follows the next in sequence from their previous schooling, however, students enter Lincoln from many different educational systems and these differences need to be factored when we determine grade placement.

If a student is coming to us from another educational system that is a U.S. based educational system, the student will generally be placed in the next grade level provided the school records indicate passing marks. A typical U.S. system of education has one year of Kindergarten (age 5 in September of the school year) and then grades 1 through 12. Grade 1 students are six years of age in September of the school year. Upon completion of grade 12, students are issued a high school diploma, which allows them to apply to universities around the world. At the end of grade 12, most students are 18 years of age.

Because a transfer student may not be fluent in English, Lincoln School may assess English language proficiency when determining the grade level placement. This is a major concern for secondary placement in the high school.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): Placement of students who are not fluent in English will be made in accordance to the needs of the student as determined by our ESOL policies. ESOL screening will be done with students to determine the amount of support needed. Regular academic classes may not be possible, until the student has reached a certain level of proficiency.

Special Needs Students: Because Lincoln School is limited in Special Services support, our policy only allows us to work with students with mild disabilities. The Special Services staff member along with the administration, teachers, counselor, parents, and student will determine an academic program for qualified students with special needs. A proper determination needs to be based on a recent evaluation and school records.

From Schools with Different School Calendars: Every attempt will be made to grant credit for past school work completed, however, students transferring to Lincoln in the middle of our school year will continue at the grade level they just completed at the previous school.

High School Students: The American high school educational system is based on a credit system with each school setting the specific course requirements. Therefore, students will be placed at Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 based on the total number of credits they have earned, educational years completed and the time of transfer to Lincoln School.

How to Apply

Applications for admission may be made at any time of the year. However, acceptance will depend on the student’s records as well as current class size. Provided there is space available, elementary and middle school students can start throughout the school year. High school students may have to start up at the beginning of the semester (August and January) unless they were already attending a school up to the point of enrollment. Generally, applications for an August start should be submitted by April for consideration.

Steps for Applying

  1. Thoroughly complete the Application for Admissions.
  2. Courier, deliver or scan and e-mail the completed Application for Admissions form to the Registrar at Lincoln School, along with:
  • Two to three (2-3) years of school records, including transcripts, report cards, SLC certificates, etc. Unofficial copies may be submitted initially. All documents must be in English.
  • Standardized test scores, if available.

We encourage you to submit the completed Application for Admission form and all other required documents as soon as possible. Prospective students will not be considered for admission before the above documents arrive.

The Application for Admission and all required documents will go before the Admissions committee. Admission will be decided after a thorough review, once it has been determined that the school is able to meet the needs of the student, and there is a seat available in the appropriate grade and program. You and your child/children may be notified to have an interview with the Director, Principal or Counselor.

Once a student has been accepted to Lincoln School you will be notified either by phone or e-mail. Please contact the Registrar to confirm arrival date and schedule an appointment. This appointment consists of a tour of the school, meeting staff and Administration along with visiting the counseling office if testing for placement is needed.

New Student Orientation

Each class has student buddies who will assist and orient new students who enroll in Lincoln School after the beginning of the school year. It is desirable for new families to visit the school at least one or two days in advance of enrollment so that students can be introduced to their teachers and to their student buddies.
