Counseling

Philosophy

We view guidance and counseling as an important service to the community of Lincoln School. The philosophy of our developmental guidance program is based on the belief that each student is a unique individual with specific needs and talents. We believe in promoting a respect for human dignity and fostering that concept among students, staff and parents within our educational community. We recognize the importance of supporting the positive growth of the individual in the areas of academics, social/emotional issues, and future career planning. We believe that the guidance program plays a key role in coordinating and facilitating programs that attempt to meet these needs.

Curriculum

Classroom and individual counseling sessions on select Guidance and Counseling issues are available at each grade level. The curriculum includes supplementing the Developing Capable People program in the elementary grades; self-awareness guidance; decision making and problem solving strategies at each grade level; secondary classroom presentations on academic course selections and planning; transcript review; registration information; college and career planning; and providing parent and staff education on guidance issues.

System Support

Throughout the school year there are activities, presentations and services for students that give support to the Guidance and Counseling Program goals. Peer tutoring, orientations, staff development, parent conferences, special services, and student activities are all examples of student outreach and offerings that support the Guidance Program.
