English as a Second Language

Everyone Smiles in the Same Language
Lincoln School has an ESL department to help students who have limited English skills.
The ESL classroom provides an environment where students learn to communicate by listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The ESL classroom is a resource for students attempting to understand all of their school work.

The ESL students’ goal is to acquire the English language proficiency needed to successfully integrate into an English-speaking environment.

Students

The ESL classroom has students from many different cultures. Many students are from Korea, Japan, Denmark and Nepal. There are elementary and secondary ESL classes

Teachers

Lincoln School’s ESL teachers are qualified ESL professionals and have many years experience in the field of teaching ESL. We have 2 fully qualified full-time teachers. 1 for Elementary and 1 for Secondary.

Test and Placement

We use the SLEP® (Secondary Level English Proficiency Test) test for placement. The SLEP® Test is a measure of English language ability for nonnative speakers in two primary areas: listening comprehension and reading comprehension.

Students will be given ESL support based on their needs. This could be through an ESL class or through support in the regular classroom.
