Sustainability Saathi Day 2: Weaving!
Students learned that in Nepal, sukul mats are made of local grasses like hay or rice straw and are woven by hand. They discussed how woven goods support sustainability because they use renewable resources and are biodegradable. Next, students had the opportunity to try weaving themselves with our local experts Tara Maharjan and Sabina Maharjan from Siddhipur Community Learning Center. Through this activity, many students gained a new appreciation for the skill and time that hand weaving requires.
