Week 3 in G1!
We wrapped up another good week here in first grade. Students dug deeper into writing small moment stories and worked on spelling tricky words the best they can. In reading, we practiced more good habits readers have during Read to Self. Students also practiced their word sorts and sight words for the first time. We used tally marks to collect and record data about our class and practiced counting in many ways in math.
On Tuesday, Miss Sudha taught students how to log in to RAZ Kids and IXL on their iPads for the first time! I updated the suggested (highlighted in yellow) IXL Grade 1 Math topics to include those relevant to our current Unit 1 lessons. Have your student practice logging in to both accounts on a device at home.
For our new social studies unit on families, we want to find out how families are alike and different. Please send a photo or two of your family to school with your student in his/her Take Home Folder by next Friday 9/1. We are especially interested in photos of your family together celebrating an event or doing an activity. All photos will be returned to you! (If you do not have a hard copy of a family photo, you may email it to me and I can print it here at school.)
In the week ahead, students have swimming Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Library is on Thursday. Miss Allison will teach a guidance lesson on Tuesday. Students will take the Unit 1 math assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Please read with your student over the weekend! You may choose to work together on the math practice page that came home today. New sorts will be sent on Monday for practice at home and students will bring Take Home Books each night.
Upcoming important dates:
- Friday 9/1 – Family photo due
- Wednesday 9/6 – 11:50am dismissal
