Week 11 Update
It’s been a fun-filled week full of crazy hair, matching friends, and Lincoln support. The kids enjoyed participating in Spirit Week!
This week in reading, the kids were introduced to their reading powers. They have learned that to help keep track of the words on the page, they should use pointer power and that each word gets one tap. This power helps them remember where they are on the page and to look at each word carefully. They also learned that super readers will go back and reread a book using reread power.
In writing, the kids started out by writing about their Dashain break. They then published these pieces to add to our classroom library.
Thursday afternoon was a time for celebrating as the kids showed off their amazing writing and reading to the Grade 5s and Grade 1s.
In math, the students learned to measure using nonstandard units, like unifix cubes. They measured different objects in the classroom and compared by stating if something was longer or shorter than their original object.
In science, the kids began their unit on plants. They told all they already know about plants and asked questions about what they want to learn. They listened to several nonfiction texts and at the end were able to answer some of their own questions.
During guidance with Ms. Hillary, she reinforced the concept of personal space. She read a story called ” Personal Space Camp” by Julia Cook.
The Dhaka Tigers visited the P1s to introduce themselves and thank them for their cheering. The P1s were buddied up with the Tigers for the SAISA Opening Ceremonies.
