Week 9 Update
An end to another exciting week!
The kids were busy writing stories that the class almost ran out of paper. In reading, the kids began using their reader’s notebook to draw and write about their favorite part of a story.
On Monday, the Grade 12 students came and joined the P1s during their math period. The P1s taught them how to play two different math games: Top it and Match it with dot cards. A great time was had by all.
In math this week, the kids explored combinations of ten. They used a ten-frame and red and yellow counters to create different combinations. They also focused on identifying, describing, and creating rectangles. Finally, they were introduced to number stories. They practiced solving these stories using their fingers and by drawing pictures. It was an introduction to addition and subtraction.
In science, the kids are learning the difference between living and nonliving things. They are able to identify if something is living by asking the following questions:
- Does it need food?
- Does it need water?
- Does it need air?
- Does it change over time?
They are very curious and looking forward to the next step in science.
On Thursday, the PS/PK kids came to our class to make shape monsters. The P1s loved teaching their PS/PK buddy about shapes and helping her/him create a fun monster. It was their chance to show off their learning.
